How to behave after the Liposuction surgery?
Liposuction is a Cosmetic Surgery that can be performed in our Liposuction Center
It is less invasive than traditional liposuction and with faster recovery times. A key aspect of the success of any intervention is post-operative management. It is really important to follow all the surgeon’s directions. Here are my tips for you.
1. Don’t be in a hurry
The surgery takes about 2-3 hours in deep sedation or spinal anesthesia. This helps reduce hospitalization times and reduce some of the side effects related to general anesthesia.
You will spend 3-4 hours in the clinic before you can go home.
You will generally be able to gradually return to normal activities within 2-3 days, other times within 4-5 days. This depends both on the extent of the areas to be treated and on the individual response. Don’t force your body, take it easy, and do what you feel effortless.
The time it takes to see the final results also varies from patient to patient. In most cases, it takes about 6 weeks.
Post-operative bruising and swelling are common after Liposuction. Patients should also expect a serum to escape from the small incisions made for cannula insertion in the first 48 to 72 hours.
2. Put on the compression garment
They may not be the most attractive or comfortable things to wear, but compression garments are an integral part of your recovery after liposuction and important to your results.
Compression garments help to:
- Compress the skin of the treated areas to reduce the risk of post-operative relaxation.
- Prevent postoperative swelling and seroma formation (subcutaneous serum collections).
- Enhance body remodeling
- Reduce swelling, increase blood circulation and stimulate lymphatic drainage.
The compression garment should be worn 24 hours a day for the first 3 weeks and then 12 hours a day for another 3 weeks.
You will only be able to remove the sheath to take a shower or bath or to wash it.
3. Don’t miss your appointments
To improve the healing process, accelerate recovery times and improve overall liposuction results, it is essential not to miss scheduled appointments for post-operative check-ups and lymphatic massage.
Post-operative checks and dressings are important; despite being very small (4-5 mm), the incisions made to introduce the cannula must be disinfected and it is also important to evaluate the general clinical conditions. It takes on average about two weeks for these small incisions to heal.
Lymphatic drainage helps eliminate any excess serum accumulated under the skin. It also stimulates lymphatic drainage, reducing swelling. All this reduces recovery times and promotes a faster return to daily life.
4. Don’t be afraid to contact your doctor if you have any questions or concerns
If you have any doubts about the therapy, the directions provided, what to do or what not to do, do not hesitate to contact the surgeon or his assistants. Your doctor will be happy to answer your questions and remove any doubts.
